UK Network for Sexual
and Reproductive Health and Rights
The UK Network for Sexual and Reproductive
Health and Rights
promotes and supports better sexual and reproductive health and
rights for all people internationally, especially the poorest and
those in marginalised and disadvantaged groups by:
> Collaborating on joint statements and
policy and joint activities both in the UK and in countries in which
members are working
> Advocacy at national and international levels
> Liaising with DFID, other Government departments and other
donors
> Collaborating with interested UK parliamentarians, particularly
members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Population, Development
and Reproductive Health
> Liaising with UK and other European NGOs working on these issues
in the UK and Europe
The Network utilises its members’ consultative relationships
of member organisations to raise issues in international fora e.g.
WHO, UNFPA, UN Economic and Social Council, World Bank, UNDP, European
Union and European Parliament, Commonwealth Secretariat and relevant
pan-Commonwealth Meetings.
Consortium on AIDS
Since late 2004 the Network has aimed to work more closely with
the UK Consortium on AIDS and International Development and seeks
collaboration with the Consortium as a whole and member organisations
wherever it is mutually beneficial – particularly in relation
to an integrated and linked response to Sexual & Reproductive
Health and Rights and HIV/AIDS issues.
Membership
Membership of the Network is open to all NGOs and other members
of civil society who are active and/or have an international interest
in sexual and reproductive health and rights and support the role
of NGOs in this area, within the framework of ICPD and ICPD+5.
Meetings
The Network holds open meetings twice a year, where speakers are
invited to stimulate discussion on topical issues. In 2006 the Network
meetings focused on "Safe Abortion: Policy & Practice"
and "Condoms: Safe Sex, Prevention and Pleasure".
Steering Group
The Network’s steering group comprises up to 12 representatives
from the membership, who are elected by the membership for a period
of two years.
The steering group meets every two months and, in addition to planning
the bi-annual Network meetings, acts for the Network between meetings
and represents the Network to outside bodies.
