The Silent Emergency: HIV/AIDS in Conflicts and Disasters

Report of the seminar, London 1999. Published December 2002.
On 2nd June 1999, a one day seminar, "Silent Emergency: HIV/AIDS in Conflicts and Disasters", was held in London. It aimed to: Outline the combined impact of emergency situations and HIV/AIDS; Identify the factors in emergency situations which increase vulnerability to HIV and augment discrimination against people affected by HIV/AIDS; Develop awareness of existing policy and practice in emergency programmes that aim to prevent the spread of HIV and mitigate its impact, and to identify gaps; Enable participating organisations to explore future implications for their own policy and practice regarding HIV/AIDS and emergencies.
